In order to provide the highest quality of instruction, the
Department of Computer Science and Department of Mathematics maintain a
number of high performance computers for use by students enrolled in their programs. These computers are primarily intended for students majoring
in or taking courses in computer science or mathematics.
When you request an account on the cs.wfu.edu domain, we ask that you sign a form agreeing to the following policy: 1. These accounts are only to be used by authorized users. If you give out your account information so that someone not authorized can have access, your account will be locked. 2. In order to maintain some level of security, we run a few programs designed to break passwords. If one of these programs "guesses" your password, you will receive an automatic mail message telling you to change your password. If, after one week, you have failed to change your password, your account will be locked. 3. Please do not lock up lab machines. If you are idle for two or more hours and you are logged into a workstation at the console, then all of your programs and processes on the computer will be terminated, and you will receive a warning note. If you allow this to happen repeatedly, your account may be locked. 4. Hacking from our machines will not be tolerated. Users who use our system to attempt to gain unauthorized access to other systems or computers could face criminal prosecution. Unauthorized use of computers on the cs.wfu.edu domain will result in loss of computing privileges. 5. Since we are not an Internet Service Provider (ISP), accounts will
be disabled under the following conditions:
6. No food or drinks are allowed in any of the labs maintained by the department. Failure to observe this could result in the loss of access to the labs. This policy works in conjuction with all the other computing policies of both the Department of Computer Science, the Department of Mathematics, and Wake Forest University. Failure to follow these policies can result in the suspension of computing privileges. |
